The holy grail of finds! One of the largest full Conk pieces mined at the Bonanza Opal Mine in the Virgin Valley.Conk wood with opal is sought after and highly desirable due to its Rare and Beautiful structure. A tree attacked by the Conk fungus( a conifer in the Fir category most likely) which hollowed out the cells. It then was buried deep in an ancient lakebed, petrified and then opalized with amazing precious opal!. Found in 2008 by Ray Wood and prepped by Andy Mangold, 450 hours of hand work, to clean and preserve this specimen to Museum Quality. Measuring 11” high x 5” wide at its maximum it weighs about 1/2 lb or 0.19kg.
